Hank’s Oyster Bar
We are so excited to share with you our latest project, Hank’s Oyster Bar. Our goal was to celebrate the existing comfort and classic quality of Hanks by choosing finishes to enhance the charm and dynamic architecture of the
space. We worked with Owner Jamie Leeds to compose a refreshing, crisp palette. The interior architecture features a wonderful indoor /outdoor quality. We chose to complement the existing exposed brick and light woods by using high gloss lacquer textures, soft upholstery and crisp graphic patterns.
The most unique and charming attribute of the new space is that the 1800 square foot addition has four distinct rooms that feature unique designs and upholstery.
The main entrance and bar feels as though it is sitting in an enclosed two story “outdoor” patio. We complemented the open-air quality and dynamic change in ceiling height by finishing the two story main wall in a faux concrete finish. The faux water color concrete finish grounds the room and creates a soothing, natural and light atmosphere. Facing the entrance, we took advantage of the height and natural light by installing 7 foot faux mosaic Hank’s sign. Over the main bar we suspended a 9 foot boat to float across the bar and reflect in to the 8 foot large patina’d mirror that sits on the back wall of the bar. The 8 foot mirror was finished in the studio and installed on site.
The charcuterie room is a contemporary and FRESH take on a nautical East Coast kitchen. The O’Neill Studios design team proposed this pattern and created a two- layer custom modello. The palette for this oversized ceiling pattern is an extension of the main bar area. We used soft grayish blues and white with hits of citrus colors sprinkled irregularly throughout.
The private dining room, or the “yacht” room, seats 22 people comfortably and was designed using a monochromatic palette to evoke pure relaxation, fantasy and formality. The room feels like a dining room on a luxury boat with a modern and elegant twist. We used a champagne colored glitter vinyl to upholster the walls, referencing the glimmer of the inside an oyster shell. We glazed the ceiling with a soft blended finish. We found assorted dining room chairs and re-finished them to have the same finish and upholstery.
Located down a short flight of stairs and tucked at the back of the main bar, you will find the cocktail room. The cocktail room, or the “den,” is a cozy, sexy little space where you can sink into luscious banquets that are upholstered with a “shark skin concrete looking suede”. The metallic smoke colored lacquer walls compliment the raw and rough exposed brick . The table tops were custom made. The shapes were laser cut to the shape of oyster cracker/ hexagon. The finish was achieved with a silver foil and covered with 2 layers of epoxy .
